How TMS Therapy Can Relieve Depression
Those with major depression often struggle to find relief from their severe symptoms. Many have tried medication with little luck. Today, there is a range of additional treatments that can help to reduce many of your depression symptoms when used in combination with antidepressants. TMS therapy is one of those treatment options. At Ketamine Care, we offer top-tier TMS therapy to clients across the DFW Metroplex and bring them much-needed relief. Learn more about this therapy and whether it could work for you.
What Is TMS Therapy?
Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a non-traditional treatment that uses magnetic pulses to stimulate the brain. These pulses target particular areas in the brain responsible for chemical imbalances and mental health disorders. Once the specific parts of the brain are stimulated, patients enjoy a reduction in harmful symptoms.
We Can Address These Conditions
While TMS is most often associated with depression, it can actually be used to address a variety of physical and mental health issues. When used in combination with traditional medications and treatments, TMS can go a long way to improving symptoms of these conditions:
- Anxiety
- Addiction
- PTSD
- OCD
- Major depression
- Chronic pain
- Peripheral neuropathy
What to Expect During TMS Therapy
Because TMS is not a traditional treatment, coming in for a session can be anxiety-inducing. However, we strive to ensure our clients know exactly what to expect before the day of their appointment. Before beginning treatment, we ask that clients remove any jewelry or magnetic items. Then, you’ll be instructed to take a seat on our comfy chair, and we’ll place a curved magnetic coil around your head. Sessions are 100% painless and only last 20 to 40 minutes. Afterward, you can resume your daily activities right away.
Be Aware of Side Effects
As with any procedure, you should be aware of the side effects beforehand. Fortunately, TMS comes with only a few minor side effects. Some patients experience headaches and scalp discomfort after the procedure, but they rarely last very long and tend to subside with additional treatments. Let us know if chronic headaches are becoming a problem, and we will tailor the TMS therapy to your needs.
